On network bandwidth sharing for transporting rate-adaptive packet video using feedback

چکیده
While existing research shows that feedback-based congestion control mechanisms are capable of providing better video quality and higher link utilization for rate-adaptive packet video, there has been relatively little study on how to share network bandwidth among competing rate-adaptive video connections, when feedback control is used in a fully distributed network. This paper addresses this issue by presenting a framework of network bandwidth sharing for transporting rate-adaptive packet video using feedback. We show how a weight-based bandwidth sharing policy can be used to allocate network bandwidth among competing video connections and design a feedback control algorithm using an Available Bit Rate (ABR)-like #ow control mechanism. A novel video source rate adaptation algorithm is also introduced to decouple a video source's actual transmission rate from the rate used for distributed protocol convergence. Our feedback control algorithm provides guaranteed convergence and smooth source rate adaptation to our weight-based bandwidth sharing policy under any network con"guration and any set of link distances. Finally, we show the on-line minimum rate renegotiation and weight adjustment options in our feedback control algorithm, which o!er further #exibility in network bandwidth sharing for video connections. متن کاملThe Feedback Based Mechanism for Video Streaming Over Multipath Ad Hoc Networks
Ad hoc networks are multi-hop wireless networks without a pre-installed infrastructure. Such networks are widely used in military applications and in emergency situations as they permit the establishment of a communication network at very short notice with a very low cost. Video is very sensitive for packet loss and wireless ad-hoc networks are error prone due to node mobility and weak links. H...
متن کاملA Rate Control Mechanism Based on Client Feedback for Transporting MPEG-4 Video over the Internet
With the popularity of the Internet and the flexibility of MPEG-4 encoding, transporting MPEG-4 video in the Internet will be an important component of multimedia applications in the near future. Unlike other applications, video applications typically have limitations in packet delay and packet loss, which cannot be guaranteed by the current Internet. It is an important issue to design a conges...
متن کاملNetwork Friendly Video Streaming via Adaptive LMS Bandwidth Control
In this research, we examine the problem of real-time video streaming over the Internet by introducing an adaptive least-mean-squares (LMS) bandwidth controller to adjust the amount of video data uploaded to the network so that the packet loss can be minimized in face of network congestion. The adaptive LMS bandwidth controller, which resides at the client end, sends a feedback signal to the se...
متن کاملImproving Bandwidth-power Efficiency of Homogeneous Wireless Networks Using On-meet Threshold Strategy (RESEARCH NOTE)
Over two decades, a problem of location dependent has been focused for improving the communication Bandwidth-Power Efficiency of homogeneous networks. The efficiencies of communication links are weakened by the Hidden Terminal Problem. Thus we propose a Fine – Tune Strategy for analyzing the On-Off communication region. We were observed that the proposed technique had been able to track and mo...
